Welcome to the North Shore Youth Orchestra Composer Competition 2011.

Congratulations to Petrouchka Steiner-Grierson of Westlake Girls High School, the winner of the 2010 Youth Composers Competition with her piece called "Whisper in the Bay". Keep an eye out at your school for the details of next years competition.

 


Youth Composers Competition 2011

Aim:
To compose a short 3-minute piece of music for orchestra with the following maximum instrumentation (you may choose not to use all these instruments): 2.2.2.2  2.2.2.1  Tmp/1per Str

2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons
2 Horns, 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, 1 Tuba
Timpani, 1 Percussionist
Strings (1st Violin, 2nd Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)

Your inspiration for this piece of music shall come from the painting below:

Due Date:
A full score only of your piece of music must be submitted before 5pm Friday 8th April 2011 to be eligible for the competition. Scores can be either posted to North Shore Youth Orchestra, 1/113 Athena Drive, Totaravale, North Shore City 0629 or emailed to composer@nsyo.org.nz. (Accepted forms of email are .pdf or .sib)

Selection:
If your piece of music is selected to be in the workshop by the Youth Orchestra then you must produce a hard copy set of parts for the players by Monday 2nd May 2011. A recording of the pieces chosen for the workshop will be given to the participants.

Entry form:
Along with your completed score, you must hand in a completed entry form. Entry forms can be downloaded here, printed off and sent in, or emailed through with your score.
